Community and workplace COVID risk is shared and reciprocal – multi-layered strategies (and clean indoor air) benefit everyone everywhere.
Peterborough Public Health has been leading the Province in recognizing the hazard, assessing the risk and communicating about controls to prevent transmission of the deadly, destructive (and ever-mutating) SARS CoV-2 virus, in order to reduce illness and death in their community and beyond.
In December 2021, Dr. Thomas Piggott was the first Medical Officer of Health in Ontario to acknowledge that COVID-19 is an airborne virus and he has continued to advocate for improved IAQ. In January the Peterborough Board of Health built on this by making a commitment to try to change things. Their Board Chair, Kathryn Wilson, sent letters to relevant provincial ministries urging them to take action on improving IAQ in public settings plus she wrote to all local public school boards, private schools and local governments to also consider improving IAQ. And Dr. Piggott has followed suit with a series of letters and resources published this month, under the banner: It’s Time to Improve the Air We Breathe – advocating for improved indoor air quality where we live, learn, work, and play.
