The purpose of this summary paper is to provide basis for assessment of causation in cases of sarcoidosis among workers in the mining sector of Northern Ontario. Clinical, radiologic, and pathologic criteria for diagnosis are presented. Occupational and environmental agents that have been associated with the development of sarcoidosis are described.
