Webinar: Respiratory Hazards

The Ministry of Labour’s Healthy Workers in Healthy Workplaces initiative runs from September 1 through December 27, 2019. This initiative focuses on the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and respiratory hazards in health care, construction, industrial and mining sectors.

Did you know that there were 592 occupational disease deaths in Canada vs. 312 traumatic fatalities in 2016, and the rate is increasing? There are thousands more debilitating (both fatal and non-fatal) illnesses and health impacts that go unrecognized and/or unreported. Internationally, up to 15% of adult onset asthma may be related to the workplace. Cancer Care Ontario and the Occupational Cancer Research Centre estimate that exposure to asbestos, diesel engine exhaust, crystalline silica and welding fumes cause approximately 1,300 cancer cases a year in Ontario. Part of this Fall’s MOL Initiative includes a closer look at Respiratory Hazards in the Workplace.

Join us, to hear more about the Healthy Workers in Healthy Workplaces initiative, tools and updates from the Occupational Disease Action Plan Working Groups; Respiratory Hazards Chair - Kimberly O’Connell, Diesel Exhaust Emissions Chair - Kevin Hedges, and Nanotechnology and Health Network Chair - Todd Irick.
