On-line Survey to Gather Data About Workplace Health Issues for

Teachers and Education Workers

The Province’s elementary and secondary teacher’s federations representing some 150,000 teachers and education workers have asked OHCOW to conduct a survey of all their members.

The purpose of the survey is to address an increase in reported complaints regarding health symptoms and conditions among education workers in Ontario.

The survey will collect valuable information from education workers across Ontario about their health and working conditions. The survey will collect information on worker’s backgrounds and working history, current work status, general health, medical history, mental health and work environment concerns.

An internet data collection method will be utilized for the survey. The survey will be housed with OHCOW and be made available to federation members though their websites.

The survey which will be available in both French and English is currently being test piloted with small groups from each of the federations.

The surveying of all the teachers and education workers will take place early in 2006.

The survey should provide valuable information on the health and working conditions of Ontario education workers. The results should also help to identify areas of concerns and possibly lead to further investigation.
