13th
Annual RSI
DAYPLUS 2012
Workplace
injuries such as repetitive strain
injuries (RSI's) account for 42% of all
lost time claims and 50% of all lost
time days. To increase awareness on
these issues, the Occupational Health
Clinics for Ontario Workers is pleased
to offer the 13th annual RSIPLUS
Awareness Day on Wednesday February 29,
2012 at no fee.
With the aid
of the
eDome at Cambrian College, now
anyone can access this year's RSI Day
event regardless of geographic
location. All that is required is a high
speed internet connection, sound, and
Microsoft Live Meeting. Using this
method people will be able to partake in
the event regardless of geographic
location. Attendees using this method
will be able to ask questions through
the internet to any of the presenters.
It is asked that all interested parties
in the Sudbury area attend the event in
person.
The day
before the event, the website address
and login password will be sent to all
participants not located in Sudbury as
well as the handouts for the
presentations.

OHCOW Offers
New Vibration Service to the North
Vibration
has been shown to increase the risk of
developing several MSDs. Therefore
reducing the exposure to vibration has
become a top priority in many
industries. OHCOW now has the equipment
necessary to complete a vibration
assessment (either hand arm or whole
body) to ensure that workers are not at
risk when utilizing vibration equipment.
Once measurements are taken and the
workers are interviewed, OHCOW can make
recommendations to reduce the exposure
to vibration to below the threshold
limit values for daily use.
Impact
drivers, jackleg/stopper drills, heavy
equipment, passenger vehicles are all
examples of tools that can expose a
worker to vibration and can have
detrimental effects if exposed for
prolonged periods of time. OHCOW’s goal
is to reduce these exposures before
injuries occur.
To make an
appointment for an onsite visit or to
have any questions answered regarding
the service please contact
OHCOW.

Local
Advisory Committee Chair Retirement
M r.
Kevin Conley was the Chair of Sudbury’s
Local Advisory Committee (LAC) from 1991
to 2010. He decided to hand over the
position to Mr. David Chezzi, confident
that he will be able to follow in his
foot steps. Recently, we have given Mr.
Conley a plaque to acknowledge and
extend our sincere appreciation of the
dedication that he has given OHCOW
Sudbury over the years. We wish him a
wonderful and relaxing retirement and
want him to know that we will always
remember what he has done for OHCOW.
